Season 11 - Do What Moves You
What moves you?
This season we are exploring what moves us creatively and inspirationally, as individuals and community members, in the studio and across the expanse of our state. As we work with artists across five vastly different Alaskan cities, we aim to erase the boundaries of the miles that separate us; to be moved and reaffirmed by our commonalities.
We believe in the transformational potential of the arts and the power of community. We create work rooted in the collaborative approach and seek out opportunities to connect with art makers and art seekers alike in order to create moments of intimacy, exploration, and wonder.
Follow the hashtag! We're making stops in Homer, Ketchikan, Cordova, Fairbanks, and working with some new dance friends right here in Anchorage. Hear more about 'what moves us' and see what's on the horizon for the company in our multi-year commitment to investing in collaborative endeavors across our state.
Homer - Homer Council on the Arts
Cordova - Current Rhythms
Fairbanks - North Star Dance Collective
Ketchikan - Ketchikan Theatre Ballet
One of our most cherished values is collaboration. Over the last nine years we have had opportunities to work with innovative artists and organizations, performing on stages and sites all over Anchorage. We have made incredible partnerships with like-minded creatives and visionaries that have helped to shape the artistic landscape of our local community. In celebration of 10 years of creating original, contemporary dance in Alaska, we are excited to kick off a season explores themes of imagination and whimsy. We will be partnering with our favorite artists and companies this season like Alaska Dance Theatre and musicians from Yachtly Crew, Pikal, and the Super Saturated Sugar Strings. Thank you for continued support of what we do. We'll see you at a show! W

You know this place. It’s the spot you crawled into as a child, inside your makeshift fortress with a flashlight in one hand and your favorite book in the other. Inspired by the worlds between the pages of our favorite childhood stories, Carried Away flies you through the deepest spaces of your imagination, on a journey filled with wonder, suspense, beauty, and hope.
A tribute to Momentum’s dancers, supporters, and collaborators over the first 10 seasons, this interactive show delivers breathtaking aerial work, set design, costumes, and animations from visual artists Ruby Suzana, Enzina Mararri, and Selene Stoll, with lighting design by Fred Sagar. Featuring original songs performed live by the Super Saturated Sugar Strings, Pikal, and Absurdist Ensemble, and original compositions by Michael Holtz and Greger Wright. Whether you’re a kid or kid at heart, Carried Away will inspire you to laugh at the absurd, face your fears, hang on tightly to those you love, and let your imagination run wild!

Season 9| Bare
On the verge of a decade of dance in Alaska, Momentum looks at this season as a way to strip down and discover what continues to 'move' us. Continuing a tradition of community engagement and discovery with events like, Breaking Ground (now in its 8th iteration) as well as Dance Film Night, celebrating internationally awarded dance films as well as local filmmakers, the company will continue to dive into the process of how dances are created and the ways in which we connect to our community.
