Community Engagement

Momentum's core values are rooted in the collaborative approach.  We further engage our community through our work in site specific collaborations and performances, as well as many different types of volunteer efforts. Through our work with groups like the Light Brigade, the drive to create opportunities for public 'interventions' of artistic expression has continued to shape our season calendar. Our work this season has been made possible through funding by the Rasmuson FoundationArtPlace America, The Beim Foundation, as well as through individual support and the support of Alaska Dance Theatre.

ArtPlace describes this idea of creative placemaking in many ways.

Creative placemaking fosters connections among people and across cultures. The relationships built among diverse groups of people create safer, more open places that create more opportunity and foster a sense that everyone is welcome. (It) contributes to a mix of uses and people that make places more diverse, more interesting and more active, thus making spontaneous interaction more likely. Intensifying and mixing activities creates the promise that visitors can stumble onto the fun, mingle with other people, or happen upon opportunity.
