Stephanie Griffin

What Moves Me?

Sunshine and the sand between my toes, live music, that brief & exciting moment between when the lights go out and the performance begins, the thought of spending time with my family, big hugs, watching my students gain personal confidence through dance

Stephanie has always been an athlete, growing up in Southeast Georgia playing softball, soccer, basketball...throwing in a little ballet, tumbling and baton along the way, and takes pride in being a multi-disciplined athlete. She moved to Alaska in 1997, started learning social Latin dances as a way to find a reason to keep warm in the winter, which then led to taking classes in Modern, Jazz, West African Diaspora, Theory & Improvisation, and Dance Rep & Performance through the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Stephanie choreographed and performed in over a dozen productions with the UAA Dance Ensemble and UAA’s New Dances productions. She also served as Adjunct Faculty Advisor to the UAA  Dance Club, and taught Salsa Immersion and Recreational Latin Dance for over four academic years at UAA. By day, Stephanie is a bit of a “Clark Kent”, in that she is an IT Analyst for a multi-state health organization…glasses and all. In the studio, she is known as “Griffin” and/or “Stephie” by her fellow Momo’s, and proud to be a founding member/director, choreographer and performer of Momemtum Dance Collective
