Momentum Dance Collective is a non profit contemporary dance company that was formed in 2008 as a performance outlet for local dancers. Their mission is to create, promote and share the art of dance, foster a collaborative process within the company and with local artists to engage and inspire audiences in their community.
Momentum is made up of dancers with diverse backgrounds and influences in all forms of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, and Latin Social dance. Using improvisational techniques and traditional choreography as a launch pad, Momentum aims to fuse traditional technique and individual style to form works that are edgy, modern and exciting.
The artists that make up Momentum are committed to promote and support dance opportunities in the community, provide outlets for dance artists to create and share work, and bring dance into the lives of Alaskans through classes, performance and outreach programs.
The Collective continues to engage in their community by working within in the Anchorage School District, hosting dance intensives, collaborating with; musicians, photographers, film makers and poets. Momentum hosts a yearly choreography showcase, Breaking Ground, that is open to the community to present new work, and they continue to premier original choreography in productions both big and small within the city of Anchorage.
